What Is Cladding?

Cladding is the weatherproof surface that protects the structural framework of the building.

It can be made from many different materials such as wood, laminate, concrete, plastic (uPVC), aluminium, composite, stainless steel or even glass.

Over time, cladding can become dirty and discoloured. Not only can this look aesthetically disappointing, but – left untreated – it could cause irreparable damage.

How Do We Clean Your Cladding?

For the vast majority of cladding cleaning jobs, Vinci Response uses either DOFF or TORIK Cleaning Systems.

Because cladding can be made from many different materials, steam-based tools provide the best option for chemical-free cleaning with optimal results.

Superheated water is pumped through the system and released through a ceramic nozzle. It is non-abrasive and non-toxic, so it won’t cause any further damage to properties.

What are the benefits of having the cladding cleaned?

As mentioned above, cladding can be made from various materials. Over time, these can become stained and dirty. As a result, it can negatively affect your building’s appearance and even decrease its value. If the cladding is not maintained correctly, it can cause damage, including cracks, corrosion, colour-fading, peeling, rot and mould. How often should cladding be cleaned?

Ideally, cladding should be cleaned every 2-3 years. This will depend on what it is made out of. For example, natural stone (limestone or sandstone) is more porous, so it will need to be cleaned more regularly.

Can Vinci Response clean any type of cladding?

How long does cladding take to dry after cleaning?

On average, it takes around 48 hours for cladding to dry after being professionally cleaned.

Are there any safety risks associated with your cladding cleaning services?

As with any restorative and cleaning work, we follow standard health and safety procedures. For example, electrical outlets will need to be sealed as our two main processes utilise water. All will be explained by a senior surveyor who will visit your building and create a risk assessment method statement (often referred to as RAMS). All of our technicians are fully compliant. They will clean your building’s cladding with the full required personal protection equipment (PPE), in line with the RAMS produced by the senior surveyor. And of course, if our technicians use rope access cleaning methods, they all hold IRATA and CSCS qualifications.
